Crown Casino to launch support centre

In a world first, Crown Casino will launch a 24-hour support centre in the complex for patrons and their families.

Crown’s manager of community affairs, Bill Horman, says it is a courageous move which will combat problem gambling at its roots.

Mr Horman says the centre will be a one-stop shop for those who need help.

“If they want to be self-excluded, 24 hours a day, seven days a week, we’ll provide it,” he said.

“If they want to come back and have an appointment with a counsellor, perhaps bring a wife, members of their family, we’ll provide it.

“If they then want to get referred to someone close to their home or where they work, we’ll set that up for them.”

Las Vegas Strip Gaming Revenue Down 23.9% in January

* The Nevada Gaming Control Board has just reported January gaming win for the Las Vegas Strip. For the month, gaming win declined 23.9% to $377.8 million from $496.8 million in January 2001.

* Results were weak and represented the worst y/y comparison since 9/11. However, results were not surprising given that Chinese New Year and the Super Bowl landed in February of 2002 versus January of 2001.

* The Strip operators had expected a weak month, and most indicate that actual results were ahead of budget.

* February was a good month, given a solid turn-out for the Chinese New Year, displaced convention business from October and November, the Super Bowl, and an easy year/year comparison (-12.7%).
